- If I could give this book 20 stars I would. It is a deceptively easy technique and different from any other breathing practice I have ever done.... and I have tried many! I have read at least 20 books on breathing and different techniques and I finally found something that truly works! Initially, I bought this book hoping to make my breathing more fluid. I had a tendency to hold my breath. Not only do I no longer hold my breath, it brought a level of calmness to my life that was completely unexpected. I have given away at least 5 copies of this book and have recommended it to countless others. Do yourself a favor and try this!!!!!
- I haven't read the book yet but I wanted to post right away that the audio files are available for download with the edition. All you need to do is open the reading sample of the book from the book page and part way in there is a link to the audio files. I easily downloaded them and saved them to my computer and then sent them to my android phone.
I will update this post once I finish the book. - My Tai Chi Teacher started using this CD in our class for part of Qigong breathing and meditation. We listen to the track with the chimes. One chime breathing in...the next chime breathing out. The doctor's voices are very soothing and relaxing. It is a wonderful way to relax and meditate. This is a wonderful book with the CD inside. The book very easy to understand, I enjoyed the explanations of "Healing with breath" which is much needed in this busy world where we seldom take time for ourselves. Everyone in my class loves it! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to know the proper way to breath and meditate and wants a relaxing soothing CD and good informative book to read.
- Yoga pranyama or breathing techniques used for literally thousands of years to regulate sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are finally becoming mainstream treatments for Anxiety, Insomnia, PTSD, and Depression. In my Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Mood Enhancing Yoga classes I sometimes encounter patients that are septical about yoga practices so I readily refer them to the Healing Power of the Breathe written and practiced by physicians. It's okay that they have westernized the practice of ujjayi pranayama by renaming it "resistance breathing" perhaps because there is a slight constriction of the throat during exhale resulting in the ocean sounding vibration that results.This of course becomes both an anchor to the present for PTSD patients and a vagus nerve stimulation for Depression patients. My patients in the psychiatric clinic that pranyama or breathing techniques are more valuable for them then the asanas, meditation or chanting acquired during my classes. Dennis Pelon, PhD,RYT
