"I purchased this for my Stepson as a sort of mindless, funny novelty gift. He has shown increasing interest in relocating to Japan after college and has been doing the Japanese Rosetta Stone to learn the language fluently.

When we first gathered 'round the table to check the book out we were hysterically laughing. The back-and-forth stabs at correct pronunciation of some of the phrases was hilarious (especially when you factor in the outlandish accents and voice intonation).

Unfortunately, after some further research (and once he gained a better handle on the language) he concluded that some of the phrases were inaccurate. Regardless, the humor value alone was worth the purchase. We still reference the book occasionally (often during parties or game nights) to find new underhanded insults and enhance our insult arsenal.

You know what they say: A family that insults each other in several languages, stays together (nobody says that)."

• An excellent companion for your Japanese studies. the title is a bit misleading, as it is not just 'dirty' words. There is a lot of information about the Japanese culture and how you should address others, along with phrases more useful than where is the toilet, train station, hotel, etc... There are different chapters about different situations as well as the two chapters (Scat and Sex) about 'dirty' words. Not comprehensive but quite useful.
• First off, this book is about 90%~ accurate. In the sense that some of the material is dated, but that's expected with any slang book. Slang comes and goes. For the most part though, the author clearly labels some dated slang. The author also points out a lot of Japanese cultural background and other very useful information. I would say this is a very useful book since it does deepen your understanding of Japanese slang and culture.
  
  If you're wondering if a particular slang word / phrase is dated, simply ask a Japanese friend. Don't just flame the book. There's no slang book in the world that will be 100% accurate because slang is constantly changing. I'm sure you know a LOT of dated slang in your own language. While they may seem 'useless' they can be awesome for jokes.
• This is a interesting book. I'm learning Japanese and found out quickly that my study books do not touch on this type of subject so I needed to expand my search and this book is helpful. I doubt I'll use half of what's in this book but at least now I can pick up on a few words when somene speaks them.
• If you are in to books like this this one is pretty accurate and much better than other similar series of books. My wife and I use it on occasion for kicks and giggles. Recommend the dirty series over the others!
• I teach Japanese and one my student had this book. Usually, I don't like this kind of books since the content is out of dated or inaccurate (nobody says that!). But this book is pretty up-to-date and accurate! I recommend this book for my students and others who are interested in Japanese language!
  
  I myself learned some new terms/slangs from this book! For me, this book is also a great book for learning how to translate Japanese slangs in English!

• I would recommend this book to anyone who actually wants to go to Japan and be able to speak casually (as opposed to what is taught in college classes) to people at clubs, on the street, etc. Sometimes it's frustrating when you can't learn exactly what you *want* to say, especially if you're wanting to hit on that cute Japanese guy/chick in class and you want to impress them. Even if you're not going to use it, it is very interesting and funny to read. This is for people who already have some knowledge of the Japanese language. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't familiar with Japanese sentence structure.

• Excellent book!
• Evaluating the cause and effects of the black communities
• In studying Black History, this book should be required reading.
• Required reading for anyone interested in the past, present, or future of race relations in America. Extremely relevant and highly recommended.
• I was dissapointed in this book I did not know it focused so much on one persons personal experiences rather than the issue as a whole it was not bad but simply not what I expected
• Initially I didn't know how to approach this review without being longwinded so I decided to take the things that stood out to me most and use the same structure as the author F. Michael Higginbotham uses in Ghosts of Jim Crow Ending Racism in Post-Racial America. F. Michael Higginbotham is a tenured law professor at the University of Baltimore and the former Interim Dean at the University of Baltimore School of Law. I really appreciate the approach he used with this book in the fact that it's simple to digest so a broad audience can read it without the aide of a person familiar with legalese or a legalese for dummies book.
  
  Higginbotham begins with a little background into his experiences with racism and how those instances shaped his reasoning behind a lot of his arguments in achieving ending structural and cultural racism and having a true post-racial society. A post-racial society isn't meant in the sense of being color blind but a way of ending notions of racial victimization, racial hierarchy, isolation, or judgement perceptions being a way of the past and not practiced by the majority. Having the preface helps the reader to get to know the author and understand that he's coming from a place of honesty and that plights of one person are actually the plights of many. Although raised in an upper-class home with two parents and well educated, he was still subject to the many prejudices that have longstanding since the days of slavery.
  
  The introduction and Part I explores how the racial paradigm was formed and how the mindsets of black inferiority and white superiority are widespread through society by the installation of laws to make it such. Laws that forbade slaves to read, be publicly tried without a judge or jury, and even them not being lawfully able to own property. These laws were of course in place to maintain white superiority and black inferiority ultimately leaving behind its many ghosts. As long as blacks remained uneducated, subservient, poor, and believe they are, the racial paradigm will not change.
  
  Part II further parallels how Jim Crow laws and the harmful effects it has made for our society today. Jim Crow laws gave the false sense of seperate yet equal but as we look back on the past we know this wasn't true. Blacks were systematically killed without judge or jury, given lower wages when compared to other whites with similar skills, and often under-educated because their schools didn't offer subjects that were on course with furthering their education. Even if the majority wanted to attend college, there were few accepted into college. Higginbotham also references the "white-flight" which left many urban areas at a disadvantage when it came to receiving government funding. There were even vouchers given to whites to help send their children to schools that did not accept blacks. Jim Crow influenced the races not to mix so notions of inferiority and superiorty never had a chance to change because neither knew much about the other.
  
  Part III was the most interesting for me. I really enjoyed reading his ideas on how to acheive a true post-racial society. I am most in agreement with two points he makes such as equal funding to all schools. I went to a elementary magnet school and I understand the importance of having an education. I also believe that every child should at least have a chance to have a level playing field. When an ENTIRE society is better educated the ENTIRE society benefits. There are better job opportunities, more self-worth and less actions of crime and violence. When people are aware of their options they can make better more informed decisions. It's no secret that inner cities such as Detroit and Chicago have a heavy gang presence as well as high crime rates but an effort to keep children in school can decrease these occurances which are heavily associated with blacks. This will help keep jails from being so crowded with black and latinos who are sentenced at disproportionate rates when compared to identical crimes committed by whites.
  
  The second idea I agree with completely that Higginbotham states is for blacks to take advantage of how far things have come since the days of Jim Crow and not to play the victim. Taking responsibility of one's own life is a pretty popular idea. Blacks being associated with being takers or lazy is so far embedded into the racial paradigm that people reference our president as "the food-stamp" president, asking for his background check, and suggesting that he produce his grades or birth certificate. These social prejudices can only be changed if we accept the challenge and change them. Blacks referencing that another black is "acting white" only further suggests that being white is better than being black and hinders the movement towards a post-racist society.
  
  There are many more points Higginbotham argues pretty convincingly and it was a pleasure to read his insight into ways we can change the racial landscape of our society. I tried to be as brief as possible but Higginbotham refereces a lot in this well researched book. I suggest this book for everyone. It was interesting to see how the ghosts of Jim Crow are still lurking where they really shouldn't be.
• "If we are to end racial inequality, it is imperative that Americans recognize how these notions, desires, policies, and practices continue to manifest themselves." (p. 31.)
  "...there are still astonishing gaps in socioeconomic indicators that divide blacks from whites." (p. 32.)
  The author's account of the Jim Crow period immediately following the union troop pullout of the South, not that the North had any bragging rights for equality, is thoughtful, incisive, and will never be found within a Texas based rewrite of U.S. history text book. Slavery had merely morphed into another insidious institution.
  His calm manner and objective coverage is a wonder to read. I know I would have been vehemently angry.
  Chapter 6 dealing which black empowerment and self help applies to all Americans, and all residents of this planet earth. The final "Integration and equality" chapter puts forth powerful suggestions that will probably never be implemented...not that they should not be.
  There is no way humanity can ever be forgiven for abusing its own DNA.
  This is a book deserving wider circulation than it will get and which should be required high school reading.
• I echo the fine, complete reviews of the book already submitted. The material is well presented, written with brevity, and it cuts to the chase of the issues. (Surprisingly, it is also an entertaining read.) It should, indeed, be required reading by anyone concerned with the mores and morality of the US population. John Hagen

• What an enjoyable and easy to read story.
  Carly Laine, private detective, decides to take a break after a gruelling case which resulted in her breaking up with her boyfriend.
  She chooses to stay in an Amish guest house where she can completely relax and get over the trauma, away from the cares of the world. Big mistake. On her first day the community discovers that two of their young women are missing and Carly, unable to resist, gets involved.
  This is the first book I’ve read by Piper Forrest and Lily Simmons and I was agreeably surprised. The book is written in a fluent, easy-to-read style, with well-drawn characters and an interesting plot.
  There is romance - three romances in fact - and there is suspense, as time runs out for the missing girls.
  But what I loved most was the fascinating insight into the Amish world.
  There is also the added bonus of the inclusion of recipes for the dishes mentioned in the plot.
  All in all a very satisfying story. I recommend it to all lovers of romance and cosy mystery.
• I have no idea where to start on this book! It was quite the relaxing and engaging read. It kept me interested and curious. I loved the friendship between Carly and Ruby. There are a couple of potentials for love along with insight on the Amish. I also love that the authors included the recipes to the dishes that Ruby made.
  I give this book 4 stars! It has romance, crime, intriguing lead characters, and strong women. Now, this is a personal preference. I wanted to see some of the characters enter a relationship. I am such a sap! But I do love the suspicious characters as well. I felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie! I don’t want to spoil too much but two girls do go missing. And tensions do rise between a Bishop and a detective. The mystery does get solved in this book, which is an added bonus. I can’t wait until the next book! The authors did include a preview of it at the end! Yay!

• If I could give this book 20 stars I would. It is a deceptively easy technique and different from any other breathing practice I have ever done.... and I have tried many! I have read at least 20 books on breathing and different techniques and I finally found something that truly works! Initially, I bought this book hoping to make my breathing more fluid. I had a tendency to hold my breath. Not only do I no longer hold my breath, it brought a level of calmness to my life that was completely unexpected. I have given away at least 5 copies of this book and have recommended it to countless others. Do yourself a favor and try this!!!!!
• I haven't read the book yet but I wanted to post right away that the audio files are available for download with the edition. All you need to do is open the reading sample of the book from the book page and part way in there is a link to the audio files. I easily downloaded them and saved them to my computer and then sent them to my android phone.

• My Tai Chi Teacher started using this CD in our class for part of Qigong breathing and meditation. We listen to the track with the chimes. One chime breathing in...the next chime breathing out. • Yoga pranyama or breathing techniques used for literally thousands of years to regulate sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are finally becoming mainstream treatments for Anxiety, Insomnia, PTSD, and Depression. In my Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Mood Enhancing Yoga classes I sometimes encounter patients that are septical about yoga practices so I readily refer them to the Healing Power of the Breathe written and practiced by physicians. It's okay that they have westernized the practice of ujjayi pranayama by renaming it "resistance breathing" perhaps because there is a slight constriction of the throat during exhale resulting in the ocean sounding vibration that results.This of course becomes both an anchor to the present for PTSD patients and a vagus nerve stimulation for Depression patients. • Awesome book with some great insight. I never felt at any point like the story of the stars was being 'stretched' to make more of them than is actually there. It's definitely not based on speculation. Lots of scripture, and lots of historical data back up this book and make it credible. I'm not going to slam other Mazzaroth speakers, but I've heard others, and it just seemed like they were trying to force me to see something I don't really see. For instance, Sagittarius by other Mazzaroth experts is indicative of Christ's split personality as both warrior and sacrifice. BUT it's half-horse, and the ancient Hebrews NEVER sacrificed horses. I kind of believed the story of the Mazzaroth, but I seriously had some qualms and doubts. Tim Warner's book struck a truthful cord with me, and I feel like it is sound both Biblically and historically. My husband is a pastor and even preached a sermon series on the Mazzaroth thanks to Tim's book. Of course, we also looked into rabbinical texts for information, but it all backed up Tim. All that to say this Before you roll your eyes about the Mazzaroth, take God out of the tiny little box our minds keep Him in, and let Him show you His story in the stars. He will open your eyes to His glory if you let Him. Read the book. Read the Bible. Be confident that you're getting one of the best explanations out there.
• Tim Warner's presentation is effective and compelling in its argument. I have heard of several differing and divergent attempts to explain the zodiacal signs as descriptive of either Jesus the Messiah, or attributed to Israel, but I believe this one makes the most logical sense of any previous attempts I have encountered. I wish the book presented more ancient evidence of earlier conceptions of the constellations to show that the pagan understanding of the signs had been perverted, such as Sagitarrius originally being an archer on horse back being perverted to a mythical centaur.
  
  My one quarrel with the author is a minor one in that, even accepting the author's premise, I would say that the constellation Virgo is representative of the woman of Genesis 3 (Eve) rather than Sarah, though I would agree that Sarah is a type of Eve, and an inheritor of the promise given to Eve, but that Virgo symbolizes the promise of the "Seed of the woman", rather than symbolizing Sarah.
  
  Otherwise, I appreciate this author's treatment of a subject matter which is often dismissed out of hand within Christian circles as "dabbling in astrology." This book is a good, honest venture into truly understanding the sun, moon, and stars as signs in the heavens by which God has relayed the Gospel, or God's tale.
• There are many books available about Mazzaroth, which is the story in the constellations. It is NOT about astrology. It is about the meaning that God gave to the people about the plan of Jesus' coming and victory over the dragon. I purchased Tim Warner's book because I had earlier purchased his book "The End of Time" and knew that he does a thorough, Bible based, and researched job on whatever subject he addresses. He did so in this book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about what God meant in Psalm 19 about His signs in the heavens.

• I was not pleased with this because of the criticism he gave to writers who had already done the leg work for him and it made me not want to read the rest of the book. Still, I read it and it was just okay.
• I was amazed with the book and Tim Warner's writing. I have always liked mysteries and puzzles and this book gives both. What a great map to the sky/constellations and what had been foretold!
• Perhaps you are riding the line between faith in God or faith in man. Maybe you think the bible is unknowable to you and maybe you are unsure it can be really trusted. Possibly you have pondered in your heart if God were real wouldn't He leave evidence that can be looked at and presented to be studied? Even more, perhaps you do believe in God but you want to know who is Jesus and what does he really have to do with all of it? May you're a person who has been misled by the lies of this world and led to believe that Christianity is an evolved religion from Greek myths. There are so many reasons you could read this book.
  
  This book has answers for so many questions. One may think the answers are based in the constellations but no, they are based on God's handbook to man. The bible. All of the prophecies in the bible have been foretold in the work of the creator of the universe. They were placed before your very eyes and every clear night all you have to do is look up and observe. They were there telling their story long before the mystical sages began to twist them. The bible explains them and much of it was written well before the myths were concocted.

• I am not sure why this book is marketed for pre-level 1 reader (preschool - K). The pre-1 books are well beyond emerging reading skills. Emerging readers should include easy to sound out CVC words and high frequency site words. With words like "royal", "excite" and "carriage" it includes much higher level blends, digraphs and dipthongs. While it is a nice story I would not recommend it for a beginning reader.
• This storybook was a gift for my 3 year old granddaughter to go along with a Sofia doll. She loved them both. She can't read yet, but while her mother is reading the story, Nora can look at the bright colorful pictures.
• Everyone loves baby unicorns! My preschooler loves this book. I'm so glad it came as a book it's one less thing I have to worry about picking up off the floor or getting ripped up and colored on I wish I could make all of her books books!
• I can't figure this book out. Some simple words such as Sofia, castle, hat are replaced with pictures while longer and more complicated words (bringing, probably, whispers, everything) are printed completely. What is the purpose in that? My daughter who is just beginning to read can not read this book yet.

• My girls (ages 3 and 6) have been in love with the new Sofia the First Series on Disney Junior since it came out. We were thrilled to see that they were starting to release some paperback books and we pre-ordered the first three books (The Royal Slumber Party, Sofia Makes a Friend and Welcome to Royal Prep) as soon as we could. They arrived a day before the release date from and we read all three of them that night as a family for their bedtime stories. They were all a big hit. We have already pre-ordered several more that will be released over the next few months.
  
  "Sofia Makes a Friend" is a cute and fun story. Sofia and her royal family are having some visitors and they bring their new pet, a baby unicorn named Pearl. Sofia, Amber and James are excited to watch her and have fun playing with her. Unfortunately, Pearl the baby unicorn is quite mischievous and causes all kinds of problems from eating flowers from the garden to jumping in the fountain and just won't cooperate with what the kids want to do. James and Amber say that they don't like watching Pearl which makes her sad when she overhears. Sofia comes to her defense and uses her powers of speaking to animals to find out what Pearl likes. In the end, this makes all the difference and the kids start having all kinds of fun and they learn a valuable lesson about how you should treat your guests. The inside back cover of the book has a fitting "Princess Lesson" that states "A true princess always makes her guests feel at home."
  
  Overall, this book is really fun with great artwork on high quality glossy paper. It has a nice happy ending and teaches a valuable lesson. It is a little more advanced pre-reader that is a great starting book for your kids with a some bigger words to improve skill, but it still has a substantial story to it. I always like to ask my girls what they thought about the story. My 6 year old said her favorite part was "when they all got along in the end" and she learned to "make friends feel welcome if they are scared." My 3 year old said her favorite part was when "Pearl splashed Amber, ate her hat, and caught James' horseshoe" that he threw while playing a game. As you can probably tell, my youngest is the mischievous one of the family. My girls were very excited when we brought the book out and they really enjoyed it. As a parent, I appreciate how this book and TV Series has fun and positive storylines with great lessons for your children. This book makes a great addition to our storybook collection and will make a nice pre-reader for our 3 year old. Highly Recommended!

• This is quite good with very good maps which show the direction of flow, a feature I really like. Nice tempting photos, good directions with GPS and history. It does not talk about hatches and imitations much. It really is overshadowed by Keystone Fly Fishing, published about a year later which is a masterful tome. I have and use them both together to plan my trips.
• Pennsylvania is gorgeous - no doubt - and the waters are truly,truly special, but I am not sure this guide is really about all that. If you can overlook the all too numerous color pics, the always mentioned guides, and the trophy shot pics, then you have some info left with a touch on the conservation of these waters. In my book, any guide to the rich resources of Pennsylvania should be full on detail for the fisher and should be told with a keen and balanced eye to the absolute richness of Pennsylvania's bounties. Try earlier books - you will lose out on trophy shots and guides - but the absolute detail for the fisher remains central and the story is told with real appreciation for the waters of Pennsylvania....
